Occupational therapy
What is Paediatric Occupational therapy ?
During their early years as babies and toddlers, a child's primary occupation includes play which serves as a platform for learning . The activities that the child chooses to engage in are intrinsically motivating and usually for amusement, enjoyment or self- expression. Play in a therapeutic context promotes skill development and interaction with others.
An occupational therapist uses play to facilitate exploration, encouraging a child to try various types of play and decide which one s/he finds most enjoyable. The therapist may also use play to facilitate functioning and development of the child promoting their independence enabling them to participate fully in their everyday life occupations.

Therapy sessions
At Sparks therapy, sessions are clinic based. Treatment begins after initial goals have been decided with the parents.
Parents are invited to stay in the session. The sessions are typically 45-50 minutes long with time for some handover and feedback to the parents or caregiver.
Treatment may be offered in intensive blocks i.e. 2/3 sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks or as weekly treatment sessions depending on the family's needs.
